If you just play LFS you can build a new PC with decent performance for about 600-700 euros.
Your very bigh problem is slow CPU and swap your current one with some a bit higher model would not help very much really as AthlonXP architecture is very old and slow now.
Whats your budget?
you could at least your hardrive,DVD drive and maybe PSU if its enough powerfull.
For what you need the PC exactly.Just for LFS and other office(excel, world, music, video playing)?no other games?
I have same processor and 7900Gt which has same performance as the above cards and its match perfectly with this processor in term of performance. My 7900Gt has very audible cooler as most of the 7900GT/GS cards thought.
Both has very quiet cooler so you will not hear that card in your system.
I would recoment to upgrade the PSU thought:
Hi,
the system looks fine and the PSU should be sufficient unless its overrated as the whole system would not suck more then 150W at full load.
You dont need the extra graphic card as the GPU is intergated already in the chipset so withouth that 6200TC you save some heat in that small case and less energy will be drain from the PSU.
Also buy some SATA DVD writer as you will save wiring in the case with SATA data cable so the airflow will be better. The Pata cables are so huge. You need to only check if the motherboard support booting from SATA drive.
if you want to upgrade then with untill 22nd July - 2 nd August.
Intell will come with new line of C2D processors which will be at the same speed much cheaper or you can get at that time for the same price faster CPU. Its worth to wait in my opinion.
there are several version of AGP slots and some older motherboards doesnt suppport AGP cards with newever versions so the PC can lock-up and freeze sometimes.
I couldnt find anything better now but looks here:
None for LFS unless you run many, many programs in background.
For some other games it might bring some performance so there will be no need to create big swap file on HDD due to limited RAM memory but dont expect miracles.Altought 1GB for windows XP I call optimal unless you play some very new games but I doubt you can with your config anyway.
Thats really weird.
I have almost the same processor but only single core.Well for LFs it really doesnt matter how many cores you have it can utilize only one of them.
Mine is running at 2Ghz.Sometimes SLI doesnt work well and might even cause a FPS drop so try to test it without SLI.Also be aware that 7800GT is slower then 7900GT.7800GTX is same fast as 7900GT.
1)No functionality lost
2)Only in case the Vista was not activated yet on that tablet but its usually done so the customers dont have to hassle with that.Microsoft licence politic is somehow shitty in my eyes.
You dont need 4GB of memory now thats for sure unless you work with huge files in photoshop or in 3D rendering programs.2GB is fine for at least 1.5 year.
There are going some nice deals regarding 8800GTS cards which are not really 400dollars!!
I would get the 640MB version for future games and especially for your resolution. 320MB might be sometimes not enough especially for some games later on.
I know it might sound strange together with my signature but I had the Vista installed here and it went away after like a week so I am back with XP.
There are several reason but mainly it was due Vista is rousources hog - I dont see reason for 500-700MB of ram for what it brings over XP.The UI and UAC thingy. This is so confusing and must be especially for new users. Also the perfomance lost in games is sometimes too big and I dont think its either NVIDIA or ATI we should blame. We know who...
Vista nothing bring to me regarding usuablity, security(the integrated firewall etc are worst option then the freeware I use here and) and productivity. The pronouced new file system which sound [romising didnt get into Vista etc.Just wanted to let you know that - sorry I was so brief and for the offtopic.
I cant agree on that. Some idi*** showing up even on S2 servers but overally S2 servers are way much more clean places to race then the anarchy on demo servers.
well they said they dont shape protocols but what if they shape ports?
As far as I know shaping is done on ports and doesnt matter protocol you use.
Maybe I am too picky but I know well how ISP playing "games" with home users.
Had my experience with some of the previous providers.Traffic and testing was fine over standart ports but when it went to ports over 1000 which are well known for some non standard usuage they were shaping these ports like mad because they were trying to throttle p2p connection which LFS is NOT.
well I have some doubts that there is no way to blame LFS 3D engine but maybe thats just me.I think Scawen focus more on the other staff and the 3D engine need definatley revision/upgrade at least to DX9. Instancing could help with less calls, maybe there is also too much overdraw which raise calls as wel...and maybe there is more things.
I understand when there is more object there is also more calls but sometimes the drop doesnt prove more calls.I could find some examples...
First its not LFS issue at all.
Vista should simply recogniye that CPU,ram,HDD,graphic card is used and not moving the PC to any powersaving mode.
This doesnt happen in XP so I would blame Vista for that....it really makes me confused that Vista is juts piece of crap software with so many bugs.
Sorry but this is useless improvement suggestion.I dont get it why everybody should adjust to Microsoft Vista crap. They should wake up and fix their crap OS.
Call Microsoft helpline and expect their BS its not their fault.
And sorry I cant help you.
vertex buffering is done via GPU in LFS a long time but it seems the 3D engine of LFS has very much calls to API which slows rendering.Something uneffectiove in the 3D LFS engine seems to be....as it shows less details is less CPU internsive but Looking at temp of my GPU comparing to other intensive games shows that it must be very unused in LFS. Thats really odd.As I said with more object/details there is exccesive usuage of calls to API.
Well the problem that only Supreme commander can used multiple cores but how much.there is not so much gain from single to dual core and vice versa.
Untill the upcoming games can show a gain from 2nd core for example at least 50 percent that its only BS from developers how the upcoming titles can utilize multicore CPUs.
Tthe software development in games is nowhere really close to take the advantage of multicore CPUs....sad.
